Gunmen attack Police checkpoint in Kano, kill one

Unidentified gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint in Kabuga, Gwale local government area of Kano state killing one and injuring two cops who were on surveillance duty in the area.
Naijah for real gathered that the gunmen opened fire on the policemen around 7.50pm on Sunday and left the scene after a gun duel.
Sources said one of the policemen died on the spot while the remaining who sustained injuries were taken to a hospital by a police rescue team.
“Perhaps, the gunmen were in the area before the policemen arrived there for routine surveillance. It was before the policemen settled down at their checkpoint that we started hearing gunshots. That was why the gunmen succeeded in killing the policemen,” a source said.

Spokesman of the Kano State Police command ASP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed the incident. He said the Policemen engaged the attackers in a gun duel. He said at the end of the crossfire, a corporal lost his life and that one other sustained a gun injury.
“Our men were attacked by a group that we are yet to know. When the information of the attack got to us, we mobilized our men but before we got there, they (had) fled and escaped through the neighborhood. We don’t know whether they were Boko Haram or armed robbers but we are investigating the whole issue,” he said in a phone interview.
