Nigeria in Pot 2 for World Cup draw

Yaya Toure pips Mikel to BBC African Footballer of the Year Award
Ivory Coast and Manchester United FC of England midfielder, Yaya Toure has won the 2013 BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

Nigeria Football Federation president Aminu Maigari has admitted that the football body's financial troubles run deep.
Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi made headlines recently when it was revealed that he was still owed salaries dating back to the end of the African Cup of Nations in February.
The NFF boss admitted to financial trouble but emphasised that Keshi will not be treated differently to everyone else.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has hailed the recent performances of Shola Ameobi and says Nigeria are "lucky to have him" in their squad.
The 32-year-old only made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2012 at the age of 31, but has since become a regular under Stephen Keshi and was one of the standout performers in the 2-2 draw against Italy on Monday.
And, with Nigeria also heading to the 2014 World Cup finals, Magpies boss Pardew believes the forward will not let the opportunity to impress pass him by.

Emmanuel Amuneke disagree's with Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi assertion that some of the Under-17 World Cup-winners are ready for the senior team.
Keshi recently stated that he is keen to run the rule over the victorious players with a view to introducing them into the Super Eagles fold.
But Amuneke, who was part of the Golden Eaglets' coaching team in the United Arab Emirates, believes it is far too soon to expose the youngsters to the rigours of top level international football.

It is not the first time that Keshi has secured a World Cup berth for an African side, as the experienced tactician is the only coach in Africa to have sent two different national sides to the World Cup, the first being Togo in the 2006 finals.

Cesare Prandelli will celebrate his 50th game in charge of the Italian national side when they play Nigeria this evening.
Prandelli made his debut on the Azzurri bench on August 10, 2010, against the Ivory Coast in London – the same city as tonight’s test.
In Prandelli’s 49 games to date, he’s won 22, drawn 17 and lost 10 – although only one of the latter was a competitive game.

Christian Chukwu, a former coach of the Super Eagles, says the team still needed better preparation to be able to overcome challenges at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Chukwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Monday that the Nigerian senior male football team had a lot of work ahead of it.
“The stake is higher now for the Super Eagles, now that they have qualified for the World Cup. It then means that a lot of work needs to be done.
