Lawyers fight over right to represent Jonathan in court

TWO law firms yesterday fought over rights to represent President  Goodluck Jonathan at a Federal High Court in Kaduna in a case filed against the president over the 2015 presidential election.
Two members of the PDP, Richard Mneaga, and Shuaibu Lilli had sued Jonathan saying he was not qualified to contest the election on the platform of the party.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Evelyn Anyadike had to resolve a case of double representations by two separate counsel to Jonathan and allowed one of them to continue with the case after seeking clarifications from them on who really should represent him. .
Matthew Echo representing Dr. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, told the court that the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke instructed their chambers to take over the case on October 9,  2013, and then, tendered a photo copy of the letter which was marked “exhibit A”.

In the same vein, the other counsel Micheal Nomeh told the court that his chambers had two separate letters from the AGF’s office authorizing them to also take up the case. But Nomeh could only produce the second letter which were tendered before the court and marked “exhibit B”.
Justice Anyadike however, ruled in favour of Matthew Echo, holding briefs for Dr. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, to represent the president in the case.
