Nigeria's Boko Haram 'uses child soldiers'

Human Rights watch says some of the fighters for the Nigerian armed group are as young as 12-years-old.

Human Rights Watch has accused Nigerian armed group Boko Haram of abducting scores of women and girls and of using children as young as 12 in its combat operations.
In a statement  published on its website on Friday, the New York-based group also accused the Nigerian government of failing to account for hundreds of men and boys rounded up during the armed group's

NAFDAC closes 54 sachet water factories in Niger

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday said that the agency had sealed 54 table water producing factories in the state.
The NAFDAC Coordinator in Niger, Mr Dadi Mantum, said this at news conference in Minna
He said that the 54 sachet water factories were closed in Suleja and Minna for allegedly contravening the agency’s regulations.

Earthquake in Iran near nuclear plant kills 7

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 struck a town Thursday in southern Iran, killing seven people while causing no damage at the country's only nuclear power plant, state television reported.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the temblor struck some 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) northeast of Borazjan. It hit some 60 kilometers (38 miles) north of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which is near the port city of the same name.

Psalm book fetches record $14.2M at NY auction

NEW YORK: A tiny book of psalms from 1640, believed to be the first book printed in what is now the United States, sold for just under $14.2 million on Tuesday, setting an auction record for a printed book.

The Bay Psalm Book, which was auctioned at Sothebys in Manhattan, had a pre-sale estimate of $15 million to $30 million.

A copy of John James Audubons "Birds of America" was the previous record-holder, selling for $11.5 million at Sothebys in 2010.Only 11 copies of the Bay Psalm Book survive in varying degrees of completeness.

The book sold at Sothebys was one of two owned by Bostons Old South Church, which voted to sell it to increase its grants and ministries.

UNIBEN ASUU Wants Wada, Others Tried for Iyayi's Alleged Murder

ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Benin chapter, has called for the trial of the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Idris Wada and others connected to the accident that claimed one of their colleagues, Prof. Festus Iyayi.
The union also blamed the government of the state for attempting to distort the facts about the accident.

12years old girl, Commits Suicide in Ebonyi

 
A 12-year-old girl, Chisom Okechukwu, has committed suicide, hanging herself at her family compound at Nnoche-Uduke Community in Okpoitumo in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
