Jordan friendly, Eagles blame referee for loss

Some players and officials of the Super Eagles have blamed the 1-0 defeat suffered by Nigeria in the hands of the Jordanian national football team in Monday’s international friendly on the centre referee.

Team Coordinator for the Eagles Emmanuel Attah and Kano Pillars’ Umar Zango echoed the same sentiment Tuesday.

The major talking point was
the ‘soft’ penalty kick awarded the hosts which eventually turned out the deciding factor between the two teams.

“The referee spoilt our fun, the boys played so well we don’t know why the referee gave the penalty; he was making some funny calls,” Attah lamented.

On his part, Zango also stated that the referee killed their morale after ‘wrongly’ giving the hosts an advantage with the 42nd minute penalty kick calmly converted by Jordan skipper Hartem Aqel.

While many agree that the penalty kick was not deserved, the overall performance of the Eagles is also being questioned even though it was a new team with strange bed fellows playing together for the very first time.

 Keshi satisfied despite Jordan loss

Coach Stephen keshi is satisfied with the performance of his team despite a 1-0 loss to Jordan in an international friendly played on Monday in Amman.

Jordan captain Hatem Aqel scored a 42nd minute penalty after a questionable call by the ref.

The Nigerian side fought hard to get back into the game but was a bit unlucky as they tried to unlock the Jordanian defense.

“It has taken a lot of effort so far to teach these players and let them understand what positional play is but I am particularly happy that the older players in the team were quite helpful in leading by example showing how it’s done so that the younger and new players could understand,” Keshi said.

The Nigerian team is due back in the country on Tuesday to continue preparation for the 2014 CHAN in South Africa next year with Nigeria making her first ever appearance in the tournament.
