Abandonment makes woman commits suicide in Ondo state

A 60-year-old woman, Mrs. Deborah Lawani, was on Thursday found dead, hanging on a rope inside her house on Araromi Street Araromi, Akure, Ondo State.

The incident attracted a large number of curious residents who came, suspecting that the ..................
woman might have taken her own life.

Some people said the deceased secretly left her husband on the bed in the middle of the night, went out of the room and hanged herself by the staircase of the storey building.

A resident said Lawani, who had left her husband’s house some 20 years ago after an undisclosed disagreement, returned to the house two weeks ago.

The source said the deceased had been complaining of her alleged abandonment by her three children.

Another source told PUNCH Metro that the children had abandoned the woman after she was suspected and accused of inflicting her husband, Mr. Olabamgbe Lawani, 65, with a strange ailment through witchcraft.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident.

He said preliminary investigations showed there was no foul play and that the woman committed suicide.

He said, “Although the corpse was initially taken by the police, it has been released to her family for burial.”
