No fewer than four persons are feared dead, and others
injured after an armed group suspected to be Fulani nomads invaded
Rijiyan-Giwa, a village in Azara Development Area of Awe Local
Government Area of Nasarawa State on Wednesday evening.
The police said reports showed that the deceased were killed on their farms that evening.
Although the state police spokesman, DSP Garba Mallam said his office
was yet to receive any official briefs on the incident, newsmen learnt
from the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that the police
moved in swiftly and made an arrest of a man suspected to have led the
invasion.
Alhaji Sale, as the suspect’s name was given, was said to have been
arrested with a K2 rifle. The suspect, who has been detained in Lafia,
is said to be assisting the team of detectives who have moved into the
area, with information that may lead to the arrest of other suspected
attackers.
The deceased’s bodies, they said, have been deposited in a mortuary
in the area, while the injured are being treated in various hospitals.
State secretary of Miyetti Allah, a Fulani socio-cultural group,
Mohammed Hussain was contacted for comments, but he said he was not able
to make contacts with the leader of Fulani people in the area, for
confirmation, at press time.
