Katy Perry scores biggest selling album for a female artist in 2013

Katy Perry recently released her third studio album ‘Prism’ and it saw great success in the UK where it reached Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart and the album has done just as well in the USA.
Back home in America the album has also seen great success after it debuted at
Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week. Not only that though, it has broken a record.
The album has sold an incredible 286,000 copies up until the week ending the 27th of October which gives it the biggest sales week in 2013 for an album by a female artist.
‘Bangerz’ by Miley Cyrus previously broke the record when the album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 after it sold 270,000 copies three weeks ago.
This also means that ‘Prism’ is the second biggest album release of the year after ‘Random Access Memories’ by Daft Punk which in its first week sold 339,000 copies.
Katy Perry took to her Twitter account after hearing the news and thanked her millions of fans and followers for making ‘Prism’ such a success in the USA:
“GOOD morning! (from TOKYO) I woke up to the news that we are #1 with the #PRISM debut & become the biggest record by a pop female this year!”
She added: “For that I say THANK YOU. I hope you are enjoying all the colors #PRISM has to offer. I promise to continue to give back… Tour next year… And so many opportunities to be a light very soon. Your love & support for the music means the world to me. X”
However across the pond in the UK ‘Prism’ dropped a place into Number 2 in the midweek chart update after Arcade Fire stormed the chart with their fourth album ‘Reflektor’ knocking the beauty off the top.
Of course the Official Chart isn’t revealed until Sunday so everything could change by then.
