A
first half goal scored by captain Hatem Aqel was all Jordan needed to
clinch the victory over the Super Eagles consisting of domestic league
players in their friendly match in Amman on Monday.
Kano Pillars’ Rabiu Ali handed Jordan
the chance to take the lead when he was
adjudged to have pushed down
Yousef Rawashdeh in the goal area before Aqel converted it in the 42nd
minute. The Jordanians appeared more interested in winning as they kept
swarming Nigeria’s goal area for most part of the second half. The
Eagles were, however, lucky on a few occasions as their hosts failed to
find the mark.
The first attempt at goal by Nigeria
came in the 22nd minute when Christian Obiazo fired wide from close
range. Ugonna Uzochukwu’s effort inside the six-yard box from an
Oghenekaro Etebor free-kick was blocked by Jordan goalkeeper to deny
the Eagles a goal.
