David Beckham has selected Miami as the location for a new Major League Soccer franchise.
The
former Manchester United footballer is said to have picked the Florida
city as part of his option to buy a franchise for $25m (£15.5m).
However, he faces strong competition from over 12 investors around the world to create the team.
His contract with Los Angeles Galaxy back in 2007 included a clause that would allow him to purchase a new franchise.
Florida has not had a top-flight soccer team since 2001, when the Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny folded.
Beckham retired from playing earlier this year while playing for Paris St Germain.
The MLS currently consists of 19 teams, with expansion plans to bring the total to 24 by 2020.
David Beckham recently revealed that he was
forced to call the police after finding a man staring at him outside his bedroom window at 4am after his 1998 World Cup red card.
