APC criticizes First Lady’s honorary Doctorate while Nigerian universities remain shut

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as the height of insensitivity the decision by First Lady Patience Jonathan to receive an Honorary Doctorate award in far away South Korea, even as Nigeria’s public universities have remained shut for many months under the watch of her husband.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said if the First Lady and her advisers had been perceptive enough, they would have known that embarking on such a jamboree at this time is an assault on the sensibilities of Nigerians in general, and the students who have been marooned at home for almost four months in particular.

Khloe Kardashian has shared another adorable photo of herself and niece, North West.
The reality TV star took to Instagram last night (October 15) to post the cute snap, which sees her cradling sister Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's four-month old daughter.

While North's face was out of shot, Khloe confirmed her identity by accompanying the pic with the child's initials: "NW".

Wealth-X Reveals Africa's Wealthiest UHNW Individuals

The wealthiest man in Africa is Nigeria's Aliko Mohammed Dangote, a self-made business tycoon with a personal fortune of US$17 billion. He leads the Wealth-X list of Africa's wealthiest individuals, which is primarily dominated by South Africans and Egyptians.
With a combined fortune of US$73.2 billion, these 10 individuals account for 0.4 percent of Africa's ultra high net worth (UHNW) population but over 20 percent of the UHNW wealth in the region.
Wealth-X released this list as part of the Wealth-X and UBS World Ultra Wealth Report 2013. The study showed that in 2013 Africa's UHNW population increased by 9.5 percent to 2,775 individuals with a combined wealth of US$350 billion – a 7.7 percent rise from last year.

Nigerians Spend N250 Billion On Medical Tourism Yearly

As the country marks it centenary celebration next year, the Organizing Committee of the Nigerian Centenary Charity Ball has revealed that Nigerians now spend an estimate of N250 billion on medical tourism annually.

The secretary of the organizing committee, Dr. Kingsley Esegbue, stated this during on Monday in Abuja at a press conference on their preparations for the country's centenary celebration at it relates to challenges in the health sector.

He further said the committee planned to use the Centenary Celebration to generate about N8 billion for medical facilities in the country.

UCH Performs First Open Heart Surgery

The first open heart surgery in a teaching hospital in Nigeria has been successfully carried out at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The feat was carried out by surgeons at the UCH in conjunction with a team of surgeons from Tri-State Cardiovascular Delaware, United States of America,

A statement by the institution's Head of Information Unit, Mr. Toye Akinrinola, disclosed that the four-hour surgery was to correct a leaking heart valve in a 19-year-old secondary school leaver.
