The identity of Tupac Shakur's killer may have died with the rapper, it has emerged.
The cop who found him dying in a Las Vegas street has claimed he repeatedly asked the 25-year-old to identify the culprit.
But the late rapper's final words were "f*** you", sergeant Chris Carroll claims.
He was the first respondent on the scene following a suspected drive-by shooting in September 1996.
But he says the Changes star was uncooperative.
"I'm asking him, 'Who shot you? What happened? Who did it?' And he was just kind of ignoring me," explained Chris.
"He was making eye contact with me here and there, but he's trying to yell at Suge [Knight, his friend and record label boss]. And I kept asking over and over, 'Who did this? Who shot you?' And he basically kept ignoring me."
However, Chris claims he witnessed a swift change in the rapper's demeanour as he realised he wouldn't make it.
"All of a sudden in the snap of a finger, he changed. And he went from struggling to speak to an 'I'm at peace' type of thing. Just like that," the retired cop told VegasSeven.com.
"I looked at him and said one more time, 'Who shot you?' He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth, then the words came out: 'F*** you.'
"After that, he started gurgling and slipping out of consciousness," recalled Chris.
Tupac died six days later in hospital and has since become an influential figure in rap music, enjoying posthumous success and notoriety for both his music and personal life.
His killer was never caught.
