LAGOS TO MONITOR ON FIREWORKS IMPORTERS

Following last year's fire incident in Lagos Island which was caused by fireworks, the Lagos State government said yesterday that it would go after importers of fireworks.
The government said it would monitor importers of fireworks closely to ensure that
they comply with the laws on importation and usage.
The state also said a joint taskforce would be set up soon to check violation of the law on motorcycle usage.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, who addressed newsmen shortly after the weekly security council meeting said crime and criminality have been reduced to almost zero level in the state.
"We want every Lagosian, citizens and residents alike to be more security conscious. We are already in the Ember months and we urge everybody to be more security conscious. We want every Lagosian to know who is his neighbour and to report to security agencies people that are of questionable character; people they suspect not to be part of their communities", he  said.
The commissioner added: "We have observed that our men in uniform are the major violators of the restriction on commercial motorcycles on city roads. Therefore, we are going to have a joint taskforce that will go after our men who disobey the laws".
